Admissions

Welcome to Langho and Billington St. Leonard's C of E School Admissions page.

We know that choosing a school for your child is a very important decision. Thank you for your interest in your family becoming part of the St. Leonard's community. We are hugely proud of our school and would love to show you all that makes it special. Please have a look at our website and twitter feed. We would be delighted to welcome you into school so parents are highly encouraged to make an appointment to visit for a tour. Please contact our school office staff who will be able to help with questions and queries.

Please find below our school's admissions guidance and procedures. This outlines the processes and procedures in applying for a place for your child. Please note, we only apply our admissions criteria if we are over-subscribed.

As we are a Voluntary Aided school, you could also  complete the attached Supplementary Form, should you wish your faith to be considered as part of your application.  This form is returned to school.

Children enter school, in Reception Class, (Blackbirds) in the September of the school year in which they are five. Parents should apply on-line in the autumn term before the child is due to start school.

By the following April, parents will be informed as to whether or not they have been successful in their request for a place.

Siblings of children who have moved from another school will be offered a place if there are places in the required age groups.

Appeals

Following the allocation of school places, you do have the right to appeal to an independent admission appeal panel, set up under the School Standards and Framework Act, 1998, as amended by the Education Act, 2002.  Parents should notify the clerk to the governors at the school by 30th April, 2024.  Parents will have the opportunity to submit their case to the panel in writing and also to attend in order to present their case.  You will normally receive 14 days’ notice of the place and time of the hearing. Decision letters will be sent within 5 school days of the hearing.

Appeals which are received after the deadline will be slotted into the schedule where this is possible.  There is no guarantee that this will happen and late appeals may be heard after the stipulated date at a second round of hearings.  The schedule is subject to change depending upon the availability of appeal panel members, clerks, venues and the number of appeals for each school (which will vary year on year).

Appeal against an admission decision - Lancashire County Council

Please note that this right of appeal against the governors’ decision does not prevent you from making an appeal in respect of any other school.

In-Year Admissions

If you are new to the area, first of all - Welcome!

If you are seeking a school place for your child, please telephone the school office on 01254 247156 or email info@langho-st-leonards.lancs.sch.uk or office@langho-st-leonards.lamcs.sch.uk  to speak to our office staff who can advise regarding our available places and arrange for you to visit our school.  We know moving schools mid-year can feel very tricky so we will talk through how we can support your child's transition into school and make the process as simple and worry-free as possible!

Please find below an in-year admissions form should you wish to proceed with applying for a place at St Leonard’s.  We will be in touch within 10 school days of receiving the form.

If we do not have a place for your child, we will be able to advise regarding your next steps and the choices available to you.
