Weekly Class Updates

Week commencing 21/02/22.

It was lovely to see the children's smiling faces as they returned after half term for the second half of the year. They have enjoyed beginning our new unit of work in history on crime and punishment and learning all about the horrible ways in which the Romans dealt with criminals !  In RE, we have begun learning about the Eucharist and what it means to Christians; this week the children were tasked with finding links between the Passover, the Gospel stories of the Last Supper and the words in the Eucharist service.  The children enjoyed their PE lesson with the coaches from Key PE and I was very proud of their exemplary behaviour. To finish off the week, the children have enjoyed Spanish and music. Well done Wrens - what a busy week !

Week commencing 28/02/22.

We have had another busy week of learning in Wrens.  The children have continued their learning about the Eucharist and I could see that they understood what was happening during the Ash Wednesday service in church where they were beautifully behaved.  Our confirmation candidates joined the parishoners and Reverend Tracy for a Lentern lunch after the service,  and thoroughly enjoyed chatting with our guests. In history the children have been fascinated by some of the grisly punishments handed out to Tudor criminals and tried to decide which punishment matched each crime.  We had a super time during World Book day and discussed our favourite books as well as exploring extracts from new books. Well done Wrens - another great week of learning !

Week commencing 07/03/22.

This week, the children have enjoyed learning about crime and punishment in Georgian and Victorian times - they were most interested in DickTurpin's antics and acted as quite ruthless Victorian judges when sentencing a variety of criminals ! In music, the children continued to refine their recorder skills and in PE enjoyed orienteering skills with the coaches from Key PE. In RE we began our new unit of work and the children considered Jesus and who he was to different people. I have been really impressed by the children this week and their eagerness to be playground helpers at lunchtimes to help the younger children enjoy their playtimes. They have acted with maturity, kindness and a real generosity of spirit - I'm very proud of them all. Well done Wrens - another great week.

Week commencing 14/03/22.

Wrens class have been very busy this week and are working extremely hard. They have enjoyed beginning our new science unit of work based on life cycles. In RE the children considered the different roles of Jesus to different people and write a lovely poem. The highlight of the week was orienteering outside with Key PE.  We were also very well represented at the STEM event this week by Leah and George and we were proud of our football players ( Harry, Gabrielle, Elijah and James)on Monday night - well done everyone !

Week commencing 21/03/22

This week the children/ have really impressed me with their hard work during our assessment week. In RE, the children have been sequencing the easter story and Jesus's role at each stage. In Science, we looked at the lifecycle of mammals and the children researched lifecycles of mammals of their choice. They all enjoyed making their Mothering Sunday cards and I hope that our mums will be as pleased with them as we are ! Another wonderful week  - well done Wrens !

Week commencing 28/03/22.

We have had a super final week in Wrens. We learned all about the Eucharist in church with Reverend Tracy as part of our RE and the children were fantastic role models during our Easter service.
In Science we learned about different animal life cycles. The highlight of the week was hop, skip and jumping round the woods resplendent in bunny ears ! Well done Wrens on another successful term - have a lovely Easter break !

It has been lovely to see Wrens class back in school for their final term in primary school. The children have been working hard preparing for SATs and I have been impressed by their positive approach to learning. We have also begun our new unit of work in Geography and enjoyed discussing holidays destinations with a particular focus on the location and physical geography of Blackpool. Good luck to the Wrens children who are being confirmed on Sunday - we hope that you have a wonderful day. We are also looking forward to going swimming on Monday morning next week !  Well done Wrens - keep up the great work.

This week the children have been focused and working hard on their learning. They enjoyed discussing their ideas about God and I was very impressed by their reflections in RE.  They especially enjoyed swimming and were impeccably behaved at the swimming pool. The children have once again shown resilience and perseverance in their SATs preparation and I have been really impressed by the progress that they have made as a result.  Well done Wrens - keep going !
