TERM: Autumn 1                     YEAR: 2025 -2026

 NURSERY NEWS Issue 1

It has been a joy to see our children thriving, settling confidently into Little Lennie’s, embracing new routines and engaging enthusiastically in their learning. Their friendships are forming and the energy in our Nursery class has been truly uplifting.

We’re proud of all they’ve achieved so far and excited for the adventures that await in the coming terms.

A heartfelt thank you to our families for your continued support and a warm welcome once again to those who have joined our school community this term.

Marvellous Maths

The children have been busy developing their understanding of numbers to 5. They’ve enjoyed reciting, recognising and ordering these numbers through engaging activities and games.

We’ve also explored the concepts of “full” and “empty” through hands-on investigations, helping children build early mathematical language and reasoning.

We’ve looked at different patterns and we’ve been identifying and naming 2D shapes all around us.

Woodland Wonder

The children have thoroughly enjoyed their visits to our beautiful school woodland. Their adventures have included crafting expressive clay faces on tree trunks, gathering natural materials to create their own paintbrushes and investigating the concepts of length by comparing sticks of different sizes.

As part of our reflections on the ‘Story of Creation’, the children collected special objects from nature - each one sparking curiosity and appreciation for the beauty around us. These experiences have not only enriched their learning but also deepened their connection to the natural world and to one another.

Lennie Bear

Lennie Bear has been a wonderful companion in helping our children build confidence in their communication and language skills. During circle time, Lennie Bear has encouraged thoughtful conversations about kindness, friendship, our feelings and keeping ourselves safe.

As the children pass Lennie Bear around the circle, they listen carefully to one another’s ideas, learning to express themselves clearly and respectfully. These moments have helped nurture empathy, self-awareness and a strong sense of community within the classroom.

Imaginative Play Sparks Learning and Friendship

Role play and dressing up have been popular and meaningful activities in our learning environment this term. Through imaginative play, children have been developing vital communication and language skills: expressing ideas, negotiating roles and building stories together.

These experiences not only support creativity but also help children form friendships, practise empathy and grow in confidence as they explore the world around them through play.

Staying Healthy with Harry and the Dinosaurs

The children have been learning about the importance of washing hands properly and what is clean and unclean.  We’ve talked about germs and practised keeping ourselves clean - just like we did when washing our toy dinosaurs!

Outdoors, we made bubbles, painted with water and thought about how water helps keep our bodies healthy. These fun and meaningful activities have helped the children understand how to care for themselves and others.

Busy Builders in the Outdoor Classroom

Our outdoor classroom has been buzzing with creativity and teamwork. The photos below show the children as they became busy builders: using large crates and materials to construct their very own ice cream shop! This imaginative play encouraged collaboration, problem-solving and role play, all while supporting physical development.

Through lifting, stacking, and balancing, the children strengthened their gross motor skills and coordination. It’s been wonderful to see their ideas come to life through teamwork and active learning in the fresh air.

Stories That Spark Imagination and Language

Stories play a vital role in our daily learning. We read a wide variety of books every day, helping children develop a rich vocabulary and a love for language. Our vocabulary-rich curriculum is designed to inspire imaginations, encourage curiosity and support communication and language development.

Through storytelling, children explore new ideas, express themselves more confidently and build essential skills that support their learning across all areas.

Moving and Balancing Together

Physical development is a key part of our daily routine. Alongside our PE lessons (which you can view on Tapestry) we love

to move at every opportunity! Whether indoors or outside, the children have been practising essential skills like throwing,

catching, rolling and even balancing like flamingos. These activities help build coordination, strength and confidence

while having fun and working together. It’s been fantastic to see the children so active and enthusiastic in their learning

through movement.
